D. P. Cole's most memorable
scene and/or quote:
Scotty and Kelly are going around the back to enter the mansion to find Ortiz, the exile. They are using Scotty's red sweater on a t-shaped stick as cover in what is obviously a green jungle-type background:
Scotty: "Now this is what I call hitting rock bottom. This is the oldest trick in the world."
Kelly: "Shut up!"
Scotty: "I've seen it in every old movie, you think it's gonna work?"
Kelly: "I got it from a 1932 movie."
Scotty: "I saw that movie, and it didn't work."
Kelly: (sardonically) "Well, it would work now if you got in the sweater and stood up."
Scotty: "Yeah. I wanna thank you for giving me them square shoulders."
Kelly: "Not at all. Listen, this has gotta work if they're not color-blind."
[GUNSHOTS]
Scotty: "Aaah!" [falls over]

D. P. Cole's review and rating:
This story is written from a different point of view: Past tense. This is a daring thing to do, since one false move will destroy all suspense and credibility.
Amazingly, this story has a couple of moments which are seemingly predictable, but actually are used to mislead the viewer (isn't it nice to know that good writing still exists, even though this was 33 years ago?)
The character of the exiled leader comes across most astonishingly of all, both in terms of writing and acting.
I'll still complain that without the past-tense level, the scenes where Scotty and Kelly are put in danger would have more impact, but the story is worthy.
Rating: 7.5/10
